Dr. Butler's journey into the world of medicine began with a foundation in both academics and athletics. Dr. Butler attended Florida State University where he excelled in biology and chemistry. Dr. Butler's college years were marked by his academic achievements and athletic prowess; he played for the FSU lacrosse team and even joined the FSU football team as a walk-on kicker. He earned his Bachelor of Science in biology and then pursued a graduate degree in chemistry. His desire to blend his love of science with a passion for helping others ultimately led him to the field of medicine. He was accepted into the University of Florida College of Medicine, where his journey into the world of plastic surgery began.
While at the University of Florida, Dr. Butler was honored as one of only 40 students selected to participate in the prestigious Program in Medical Sciences. This unique program provided him with invaluable "real world" experience, working closely with practicing physicians alongside his medical studies. It was here that Dr. Butler's interest in plastic and reconstructive surgery was ignited, particularly through his work with renowned plastic surgeon Dr. H. Louis Hill. Following his medical degree, Dr. Butler pursued a general surgery residency at the University of North Carolina's program at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC. Over the five-year residency, he refined his surgical skills and developed a reputation for his ability to communicate complex medical concepts to his patients in a relatable manner. To further specialize, Dr. Butler accepted a fellowship in plastic surgery at the University of Utah, where he trained under some of the nation's leading academic surgeons.
After completing his fellowship, Dr. Butler was eager to return to his home state of Florida. He and his wife of more than 34 years, Cathy, chose Pensacola as the ideal place to live, work, and raise their family. Since founding Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery, Dr. Butler has built a successful practice and embraced roles as a mentor and leader in the medical community. He serves as an adjunct professor of surgery for the Florida State University College of Medicine, a professor of plastic surgery with West Florida Hospital's general surgery program, and on the credentialing committee at Sacred Heart Hospital. Outside of his professional life, Dr. Butler is known as the "Godfather of Lacrosse" in Northwest Florida, credited with helping to establish and grow the sport in the region. Dr. Butler enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, William and Caroline. His hobbies include playing and coaching lacrosse, fishing, and playing tennis, all of which add to his well-rounded and active lifestyle.

My first consultation with Dr. Butler was perfect. He was great at explaining each procedure I wanted done. He was knowledgeable, experienced and answered all my questions. The staff was great also! Kim was great at explaining how everything works. I had visited other doctors but I never felt good about them. I will definitely be scheduling my all procedures with Dr. Butler and his team.
