What Is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation is a popular procedure for enhancing breast size and shape for a fuller look. It uses implants to provide youthful and attractive results. At Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery in Pensacola, FL, our team performs many of these surgeries each year. In your consultation, we'll discuss your goals and options to create a customized surgical plan.
What Is the Surgical Technique?
Decisions regarding incision and implant placement for breast augmentation are made before the surgery. During the procedure, an incision is made, and then the chosen breast implant is positioned either under the pectoral muscle or behind the breast tissue but over the pectoral muscle. The choice of implant location depends on several factors, including the type and extent of the desired enhancement. Scarring is generally minimal, as incisions are strategically placed within the natural creases and lines of the body. The specific placement and position of the implant will also be influenced by your implant size, activity level, and body type.
What to Expect After Breast Augmentation
Once your procedure is finished, we'll move you into a post-surgery room, where you will be closely monitored until you're ready to be released. You will be sent home wearing a compression garment to help reduce swelling. Within a few days, the swelling and bruising will start to slowly go away, and your breasts will start to look and feel normal as they fall into their new position. The majority of patients can resume everyday activities within a few days, but you should wait until our team clears says it's OK before attempting strenuous exercise (usually after 6 – 8 weeks). Breast implant surgery creates gorgeous outcomes that look and feel both normal and natural. This treatment can be a life-changer for many patients, empowering them to feel more self-assured.

Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery Reviews
Just a note of Thanks to Dr. Patterson and his staff. I am so thankful for everyone in his office for taking such good care of me. Dr. Patterson is one of the Best doctors in Pensacola. I decided back in 2010 to have breast implants put in due to nursing 3 children. Dr. Patterson is a perfectionist and I am thankful for that. Dr. Patterson also did a breast reduction for my daughter due to severe back pain and now the back pain is gone and we were able to get her off of pain medicine. May 2024 I had my implants removed due to having rheumatoid arthritis and severe back pain. As of now I am 3 days post opp and feel so much better. I wish I could remember everyone’s name in his office because they deserve Recognition for going above and beyond being helpful. Gulf Coast Plastic surgery is Voted The Best in Pensacola if you ask me. Thank-you for your expert care and saving me from a dangerous back surgery. I have so much more energy now and I am beyond blessed having extraordinary care! I would also like to say that The Cornerstone Surgery Center was Amazing. Shout out to such a Amazing team. The anesthesiologist made me feel like there was nothing to be afraid of and she was right. I feel like they are the Best team with over 50 years combined experience in Pensacola!! Keep up the Great work! Tanya Ballard
Dr. Leveque performed my tummy tuck and breast augmentation. I am almost two weeks out of surgery and recovering beautifully thanks to the support from her staff and careful care instructions. Leading up to the procedure I was well educated by Dr. Leveque and the staff at GCPS. The surgery itself was just fine, I was well prepared and went home the same day. My incisions are remarkably small! I know they will heal well. My post op visits have also been so helpful. I had initially had a quote from another surgeon and opted to come here. I am so glad that so did.
The staff and Dr. Patterson are up to date and knowledgeable in their practice. Being 70 years old, I most appreciated Dr. Patterson’s candor in his explanations to me as to what to expect on every level of a breast reduction/lift from pre-op to post-op. He explained every minute detail of the procedure and was patient with every question/fear that I had. He previously did breast augmentations for two of my daughters whom were pleased with his attention to detail, e.g. symmetry, etc. Feeling confident in Dr. Peterson’s care.
Dr. Patterson and the entire staff from the receptionists at the front desk, to the nurses, and surgery coordinators have been AMAZING at Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery! Everyone was wonderful with their affiliated surgical center as well! I experienced a saline breast implant rupture. The initial implant surgery was done 10+ years ago and performed by another surgeon who is no longer in the area. I was referred to Dr. Patterson by my previous surgeon. I was able to be seen quickly, have all my questions answered, and anxiety put at ease. My breast implant removal surgery and recovery have gone wonderful! I would highly recommend Dr. Patterson to anyone who is looking for an experienced plastic surgeon who genuinely cares about your health , well being, and giving the best possible result for your unique body.
Everyone at this office and that works for Dr Patterson was absolutely that kindest! Dr Patterson is so nice and compassionate about his work and patients, he takes the time to listen and reassure you when you are a bit anxious. I would highly recommend him with your plastic surgery needs. I had breast implants removed and it was a good decision! The nurses especially Ms. Ashley so sweet and understanding and they listen and ask questions and truly make sure you are good to go no matter the situation. Thank you all very much for your guidance to a big decision I made.

Am I A Candidate for Breast Augmentation?
Every patient who seeks out breast augmentation surgery does it for their own reasons. If you are considering this surgery, it is important that you do it for yourself. You should be in overall good health and have breasts that are already fully formed. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your chest because of small or shapeless breasts, you could benefit from this surgery. In addition, if your breasts have changed due to weight loss or pregnancy, this surgical procedure can give them life with increased volume. It may also be an ideal choice if you have a naturally flat or muscular chest.
Breast Augmentation FAQs
Do I need a breast lift or augmentation?
Your treatment plan might include breast augmentation, a breast lift, or both. A breast lift removes loose skin and raises the breasts, while implants addresses the shape and size. During your consultation, we'll discuss your concerns and goals before explaining your treatment options. An augmentation and lift are usually a part of a mommy makeover to rejuvenate the breasts after breastfeeding and pregnancy.
How much does breast augmentation cost?
The final cost for breast augmentation surgery can vary based on your current shape, your desired look, and whether you're combining your breast enhancement with any other surgeries. After creating your treatment plan, we'll talk about estimated costs and financing options. To ensure you are happy with your results and they last a long time, it is important to focus on quality over costs.
Can my implants be removed if I change my mind?
You might decide at some point that you would like to remove or replace your implants. In these situations, our team is happy to provide breast revision surgery. In revision surgery, your current implants will be either replaced with different implants or simply removed. If you want to have your implants removed, you may need to have a breast lift, since larger implants can stretch your skin. If you have any questions or concerns after your breast augmentation surgery, schedule a consultation at Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery to discuss your options.
Can I breastfeed with implants?
If you are thinking of breastfeeding after your breast augmentation, it's important that you let our team know. With the right placement and technique, you may be able to breastfeed without problems. Pregnancy and breastfeeding can affect your results, so it is best to wait until after you are done having children to have breast surgery.
Do breast implants cause cancer?
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating a link between implants and ALCL (anaplastic large cell lymphoma). This is not breast cancer, but a cancer of the immune cells. According to WHO (the World Health Organization), implant-related ALCL is very rare and when caught early, it's highly treatable. We encourage all patients with implants to get frequent screenings for breast cancer. You should contact Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery if you notice any concerns, such as swelling or other visible changes.
