What Is Breast Reduction?
Large breasts can cause social and physical challenges, including self-image issues and back, neck, and shoulder pain. At Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery in Pensacola, FL, breast reduction surgery removes excess fat, tissue, and skin to resize and reshape the breasts. The procedure also repositions the areolas and nipples and includes a lift for a firmer look.
What Is the Surgical Technique?
Breast reduction surgery is typically an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. The specifics, including incision method and tissue removal, vary. The nipple and areola are also repositioned. Though scarring is likely, modern techniques have minimized its visibility. Depending on the reduction needed, an inverted-T or vertical incision is used to remove fat and tissue, reshaping and lifting the breast for a better contour. Initial consultations at Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery will cover these details.

Breast Reduction Reviews
Just a note of Thanks to Dr. Patterson and his staff. I am so thankful for everyone in his office for taking such good care of me. Dr. Patterson is one of the Best doctors in Pensacola. I decided back in 2010 to have breast implants put in due to nursing 3 children. Dr. Patterson is a perfectionist and I am thankful for that. Dr. Patterson also did a breast reduction for my daughter due to severe back pain and now the back pain is gone and we were able to get her off of pain medicine. May 2024 I had my implants removed due to having rheumatoid arthritis and severe back pain. As of now I am 3 days post opp and feel so much better. I wish I could remember everyone’s name in his office because they deserve Recognition for going above and beyond being helpful. Gulf Coast Plastic surgery is Voted The Best in Pensacola if you ask me. Thank-you for your expert care and saving me from a dangerous back surgery. I have so much more energy now and I am beyond blessed having extraordinary care! I would also like to say that The Cornerstone Surgery Center was Amazing. Shout out to such a Amazing team. The anesthesiologist made me feel like there was nothing to be afraid of and she was right. I feel like they are the Best team with over 50 years combined experience in Pensacola!! Keep up the Great work! Tanya Ballard
Very satisfied with my breast augmentation. Dr. Butler did fantastic and was very thorough with everything.
Breast Implant Exchange Without Lift from a Wonderful Doctor - I absolutely love Dr. Leveque, she is fabulous! And every single person on her staff are fabulous. They made me feel so comfortable and are genuinely so nice. I'm originally from New Orleans and had my first and only breast augmentation done in November 11, 1999. At that time, there was a ban on silicone implants, so I had saline-filled implants. I have to say, they lasted just four months shy of 30 years. On May 11th, 2026, while in the shower, I looked down and realized my left breast implant had ruptured. I freaked out (as I'msure anyone would). You couldn't really tell while dressed, but it was a little painful and moved a lot more than my right breast, and most importantly, I had vacation starting June 3rd. After researching doctors in my area because, being from New Orleans and now living in Florida, I wasn't too informed on the plastic surgeons in the area. I get my Botox and Juvéderm from a med spa. It took me about 2.5 days to research and choose Dr. Leveque, and it was the best decision. I was on a time line because of my vacation coming up. I called her office and they didn't have any appointments until July and I was so nervous and upset. I explained my situation and not 10 minutes later, Dr. Leveque's office manager called me back and was able to get me in for a consultation on May 19th. The consult went great and because of my situation with my upcoming vacation, Dr. Leveque said she could do my surgery on May 21st, and I accepted. I just thought that it was so nice of her to offer me a date so soon. And she is just the sweetest doctor and very caring. I was going to be able to go on vacation and be comfortable. For my first surgery, I barely had any pain, so this surgery I decided that I didn't want any opiod pain medications. I've had too many friends die from options and am scared to take them now. Honestly, I didn't even need them. The anesthesiologist did a nerve block which was amazing. I think I took OTC Tylenol for three days, and that was it. I was prescribed muscle relaxers and nausea medication and only took the muscle relaxers for five or six days, but just one a day instead of the one every six hours, and I never needed the nausea medication. I did go with bigger implants as I wished I had before and I didn't need a lift, because thankfully, I come from a perky people (ha ha). I'm two days away from reaching my five day mark and I have to say, my breasts have never looked better. Thank you so much, Dr. Leveque, and all of your staff. You all are amazing and I cannot tell you all how appreciative I am of you.

I had a rupture before by a Different surgeon 11 years ago before I moved to Pensacola my right one ruptured and I had some issues with them going under the armpit and they were uncomfortable…. Dr. Leveque Swapped them out Also went through the same scarand Tighten the pockets without doing a breast lift and actually made them WAY BETTER than the original set !! They are closer together And no more under the armpit, they are so comfortable . She made me look 1000% better!!!!!! Dr. Leveque is TRULY The BEST!!!!! 💕🙏🏼💕
I was very fortunate to have Dr. Leveque do both a breast reduction and abdominoplasty. I had 3 hernias that were repaired and an extensive vertical 8” scar removed. For the breast reduction, I am about 6 cup sizes smaller - for a 36D-DD. I chose to have the mesh and am incredibly pleased with the results. The staff and Dr. Leveque were professional, kind, and diligent to meet my needs. I feel like I have the body of a 30 year old ( I am 60)

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does breast reduction surgery cost?
The cost of your breast reduction surgery can be discussed during your consultation. After your personal treatment plan has been created, it will be easier to calculate your costs, including anesthesia, fees for the surgical facility, and more. Reduction surgery usually leads to a significant improvement in all aspects of life, which is why our team will help you find low-interest financing to help make your treatment affordable. We will also help you work with your insurance provider to see if your policy covers some of your costs.
Will my insurance cover breast reduction?
Your health insurance may pay part of the cost of breast reduction surgery if it's considered medically necessary. If you want to use your insurance, be sure to let us know so we can help with your insurance claim. You should also talk to your insurance company to find out if your policy might pay for the surgery and the information they need. Your insurance will most likely be decided based on measurements like your height, weight, body mass index (BMI), and body surface area.
Will my nipples be moved?
In most cases, the nipples and areola will be moved up to a higher position during the surgery. If a significant amount of breast tissue and skin is being removed, your nipple-areola complex may be cut out and moved. A technique like the anchor incision will be used so the nipple and areola are easy to move higher on the breast. It's also possible to perform an areolatome to reduce the size of the areolas. All of these options will be discussed in your consultation before we help you decide on the best treatment plan to achieve your goals.
