Surgical VS Non-Surgical Nose Job

Most people notice someone’s nose only when it is oddly shaped or disproportionate for their face (too large, too small, too wide, or too narrow). If you are dissatisfied with the appearance of your nose, it can affect the way you feel about your overall facial appearance. With the advances in cosmetic treatments, there are now both surgical and non-surgical options available to patients wanting to change the shape of their nose.
Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty surgery, or nose job as it is commonly called, has come a long way. At Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery, Dr. Peter Butler performs surgical rhinoplasties. He has almost 20 years of experience in performing cosmetic surgery of the nose. Dr. Butler uses the advanced VECTRA 3-D imaging system which allows you and he to make virtual modifications to your nose so you can see what it will look like before surgery. Nose surgery is often rated “life changing” by patients and can dramatically improve one’s overall appearance.
Dr. Butler believes the goal of a rhinoplasty is for the nose not to get noticed. A rhinoplasty can look obvious if not performed correctly. Noses can look unnatural for a couple of reasons. One reason is that the shape of the nose does not compliment the contours of the face, making the face appear unbalanced. There can also be irregularities like hard angles, bumps or depressions. Correcting a hump and creating a smaller tip are typically the changes that most people need, and these changes should be done conservatively to achieve the best final outcome.
Rhinoplasty is usually performed as an outpatient surgery, under general anesthesia. The surgery usually last about 1 to 2 hours, although more complicated cases can take longer to complete. The surgical incisions are able to be concealed inside the nose or along its natural creases, leaving little to no evidence of your surgery once the incisions are fully healed.
Non-Surgical Nose Jobs
For some patients a surgical procedure may not be needed. Patients that are unhappy with a depression in the nose or an arch along the bridge may be able to achieve the desired results using dermal fillers. Both Dr. Butler and Dr. Jocelyn Leveque perform “liquid nose jobs.”
Dermal fillers are more cost effective and have no downtime. However they are temporary, lasting between one and two years depending on the type of filler used. By carefully placing the dermal filler in depressions to fill them or along other areas of the nose to create symmetry, you can have a nose you’ll love in less than an hour. Keep in mind, this is only an option for some patients.
