Many patients are surprised to learn that liposuction is the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure done in the United States. Its popularity is due to it being highly effective, safe, and can be used to treat excess fat deposits almost anywhere on the body. Hips, thighs, abdomen, flanks (love handles), back, and bra-line, and neck are among the most common areas treated with liposuction. Many patients opt to have multiple areas of their body treated simultaneously so that they can achieve a more sculpted physique.
The terms “Lipo 360” or “360 Lipo” have become commonplace, but many patients aren’t exactly sure what it is. Lipo 360 isn’t a particular type of liposuction. Instead, it is liposuction that addresses the entire midsection of the body; front, back, and sides. A board-certified plastic surgeon uses liposuction to contour the upper and lower abdominal area, the flanks or love handles, and the lower and mid-back. It refines the patient’s shape, slims the waistline, and removes stubborn fat deposits that are difficult to lose through diet and exercise. Lipo 360 is customized for each patient’s unique needs.
The ideal candidate for Lipo 360 is one that is within their ideal weight range but wants to lose areas of excess fat from trouble areas. Both large and small areas are treated, uncovering curves and removing bothersome bulges.
How is 360 Lipo performed?
First, medications are administered to make the patient feel more comfortable during the procedure. Depending on the amount of fat that needs to be removed, it is usually best to have Lipo 360 done under general anesthesia. Through a small incision, a local anesthetic is administered to reduce bleeding during the procedure, which helps minimize post-operative bruising. A hollow tube, also called a cannula, is then inserted to loosen and remove the fat.
Recovery:
Downtime from Lipo 360 is minimal, and most patients can return to most activities within a few days. As with any surgical procedure, it is essential to follow your post-operative instructions. One of the most critical components for recovering from liposuction is wearing a compression garment. Designed to be worn under clothing, wearing your compression garment as directed will speed up the healing process and ensure that you get beautiful results.
Most patients experience some mild post-operative pain, but is well-controlled with prescription pain medication. The majority of patients can return to work and mild activity within a week of surgery. However, you will need to wear compression garments for four-to-six weeks.
If you have stubborn fat and want to have a beautifully contoured figure, schedule a consultation with one of our award- winning, board-certified plastic surgeons at Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery, Drs. Jocelyn Leveque, Nathan Patterson, and Peter Butler.
